Recruitment almost tops list of high-stress jobs

The recruitment sector almost topped a recent list of Britain’s most high-stress careers, coming in second only to social care with 81.8% of the 1100 polled professionals stating that their position creates high levels of stress.

Phased opening of £208m smart motorway starts soon

A phased opening of Manchester’s £208m smart motorway will start this autumn.

The Highways England says its scheme will provide more technology to help keep traffic flowing more smoothly and more capacity, meaning journeys will be more reliable.

The first sections to complete will be along a five-mile stretch of the M62 near Rochdale and on a two-mile section of the M60 near the Trafford Centre.

No Vegans: ‘Joke’ job ad receives viral backlash

A job advert that stated ‘no vegans’ in a bid to garner attention – has received exactly that.

However, the attention has come in anger, facing backlash from a community of vegans who believe the advert is discriminatory – Kent Live reports.

Embattled rec agency fined £260k for underpaying staff

An embattled employment agency that supplied staff to Sports Direct, has been ordered to pay back staff it underpaid.

The Best Connection Group, which sent up to 2,000 people a week to work at the notorious Sports Direct Shirebrook warehouse, was fined with a £263,000 penalty last year. Premier Foods signs five-year Cadbury cake deal

Premier Foods has signed a five-year deal with Mondelēz International to continue producing and marketing Cadbury-branded cakes and ambient desserts. The deal, confirmed today (August 31), will allow Premier Foods to produce Cadbury cakes in a further 36 countries, including China, India, Japan, Canada and South Africa.

Its previous deals with Mondelēz, which go back some 30 years, only gave the manufacturer licence to produce the cakes in 10 countries.… Read more

Four fifths of Britons ‘proud of work’

Four in five British adults are proud of the work they do, while two thirds enjoy going to work most days, research suggests.

The ComRes survey also suggested women are more likely than men to enjoy their work.

Public sector workers have more pride in their jobs than those in the private sector, it indicated.

UK manufacturing growth ‘accelerates’

Growth in the UK’s manufacturing sector accelerated last month, according to a closely watched survey, with output, orders and employment all picking up.

The Markit/CIPS purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for manufacturing rose to 56.9 in August from 55.3 in July. A figure above 50 indicates expansion.

Rob Dobson from Markit said the sector continued to make “solid progress”.
